India’s Abhinav Shaw and Sambhavi delivered a sensational performance at the Junior World Championship in Suhl, Germany, clinching the gold medal in the mixed team event while setting a new world record.
The Indian duo began their campaign in dominant fashion, posting a massive 634.6 in the qualification round. In the final, they stayed well ahead of strong teams from Germany and Norway, displaying remarkable consistency and composure.
Abhinav and Sambhavi shattered the previous world record of 499.9, registering an outstanding 505.8 points to establish a new Junior World Record.
Speaking after the victory, Abhinav Shaw said, “I was completely in my zone.” He also revealed that despite qualifying for their respective individual events, both he and Sambhavi were disqualified due to the stiffness of their shooting kits.
“I missed out on two medals because of my kit on Sunday. After that, I made up my mind that I would settle for nothing less than gold in the mixed team event,” Abhinav added.
The President of the West Bengal Rifle Association, Mr. V. K. Dhall, congratulated Abhinav over the phone and blessed him for his remarkable achievement.
“Abhinav is a true champion. He fought back in style and won a gold medal for India. We are proud of him,” Dhall said.
Abhinav’s school principal, Mr. Ravi Victor, also expressed his pride, saying, “Abhinav has added yet another feather to his cap with this outstanding achievement.”
