ICSC Chairman Says the Budget Prioritizes Employment, Social Welfare, Infrastructure, Education, Healthcare, and Industrial Development

Publicnewz Kolkata: Firoz Khan (FK), Chairman of the IndoUG Commerce and Social Council (ICSC), has welcomed the West Bengal Budget 2026, describing it as a balanced, development-oriented, and people-centric budget that focuses on economic growth, employment generation, social welfare, and the overall well-being of the people.
He stated that the budget has taken into account the needs of every section of society, including youth, women, government employees, workers, farmers, traders, and economically weaker communities. According to him, the announcement of one lakh government jobs, special welfare schemes for women, the increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) to 38% for employees, and higher honorariums for Anganwadi workers, ASHA workers, and para-teachers will benefit millions of families across the state.
Firoz Khan further said that the government’s initiatives for women’s welfare, social security, gig workers, and migrant labourers reflect an inclusive approach aimed at strengthening vulnerable and underprivileged sections of society.
He particularly appreciated the emphasis placed on education and healthcare. Plans to establish new universities, educational institutions, hospitals, and strengthen healthcare services, he said, will significantly improve access to quality education and medical facilities for the people of West Bengal.
Highlighting the infrastructure initiatives announced in the budget, Firoz Khan said that investments in metro rail, roads, bridges, and transportation projects would accelerate the state’s development. He noted that the proposed airport at Kalyani, the Chingrighata–New Town Elevated Corridor, the construction of new bridges, and other infrastructure projects would improve connectivity and stimulate economic growth.

He also praised the government’s focus on industrial development, stating that the proposed IT Park in Siliguri, the semiconductor unit in Durgapur, and other industrial initiatives would attract investment and create new employment opportunities for the state’s youth. He described the budget as one that promotes industry, business, innovation, and technological advancement.
Firoz Khan added that the budget gives equal importance to the development of North Bengal and rural areas, rather than focusing only on Kolkata. He observed that nearly every key sector—including education, healthcare, industry, employment, women’s empowerment, social security, transport, airports, metro rail, information technology, agriculture, and infrastructure—has received due attention.
Congratulating the Government of West Bengal and Finance Minister Swapan Dasgupta on presenting what he described as a visionary and development-oriented budget, Firoz Khan expressed hope that the effective implementation of the announced schemes would take the state’s development to new heights and ensure benefits for people from all sections of society.
