PUBLICNEWZ Asansol, June 17: In a major relief for family pensioners under the Coal Mines Provident Fund Organisation (CMPFO), the Government of India has approved a minimum family pension of ₹1,000 per month. The decision is expected to benefit hundreds of pensioners who were previously receiving meagre monthly family pensions ranging from ₹50 to ₹350.
To mark the implementation of this significant welfare measure, the CMPFO Regional Office-I, Asansol, organised a special programme on June 17, 2026.
During the event, Regional Commissioner-I and Regional Head, Ajay Kumar Singh, handed over copies of the Pension Payment Orders (PPOs) along with details of arrears to several widow pensioners.
Addressing the gathering, Singh stated that 889 family pensioners under the jurisdiction of CMPFO Regional Office-I, Asansol, the majority of whom are widows, will benefit from this initiative of the Government of India.
He further informed that pensioners who are unable to visit the office due to old age, illness, or disability will receive doorstep assistance. CMPFO officials and staff will visit their homes to deliver copies of the PPOs and provide complete information regarding the revised pension amount and arrears.
The Government of India said the initiative is an important step towards strengthening social security for economically vulnerable families and ensuring a life of dignity for widows and other eligible family pensioners under the CMPFO scheme.
